Piano HandsWelcome to the East Valley Music Teacher’s Association. We are a professional, nonprofit educational organization which originated in 1987 and is made up of approximately 150 teachers. Although we are primarily made up of private piano teachers, our membership also includes teachers of all instruments, voice, and music educators. Our organization is made up of teachers in private studios, private schools, public and charter schools, colleges, and universities. There is also a student chapter at the Arizona State University School of Music which is affiliated with EVMTA.

East Valley teachers originally met with Central District, as it was called at that time, in Phoenix. In the spring of 1987, several teachers began to propose the idea of East Valley having its own group. Mainly through the efforts of Joan Woods this idea became a reality, when in the fall of 1987, Ken Noble was elected as East Valley District’s first president. At that time, East Valley District had 80 members and Central District had 88 members.

East Valley began with a full complement of activities, which has expanded over the years. Music in the Mall and the Senior Recital were initiated in 1998 and several additional scholarship programs have begun since then. We offer the following activities for students: Fall Recital, Music in the Mall, EVMTA Piano Ensemble, Music Carnival, EVMTA Piano Competition, Prize Piano Performers, Spring Recital, Arizona Study Program, Organ Stop Pizza Party, Nancy Spitzer Memorial Student Scholarship, Senior Award, and Senior Recital.
